As you know Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 is a powerful server operating system capable of many different roles and functions. However, to prevent overloading production servers with features and options that are never used, Windows Server provides a modular approach in which the administrator manually installs the services needed. To setup and configure DNS, one must install the DNS Server Role on Windows Server 2012. Ok now I want to show you how to install and configure DNS roles in windows server 2012 R2. Let’s go to start configuration DNS roles.
Install and configure DNS Server Role
- Before you Begin
First of all click to add a new role to Windows Server 2012, you use Server Manager. Start Server Manager, click the Manage menu, and then select Add Roles and Features.
Ok when you click on add roles then next page will be open. and then go down and click on next button.
- Installation type:
Ok Now, it’s time to select the installation type. For DNS servers, you will be selecting the Role-based or feature-based installation when you selected click on next
- Server section:
Next, you will choose which server you want to install the DNS server role on from the server pool. Select the server you want, I want to select the first one it means (Select a server from the server pool) and then click next.
- Server roles:
When your server roles open you must to find “DNS”. Go down and then select the DNS. And then click on next the next page will be open.
- Add roles and features wizard
Add roles and features wizard is open now click on add features.
- DNS Server:
When you add the DNS Server page is open and then click on next.
Ok the confirmation page’s open. If you want to restart your system, So click on restart the destination server automatically if required and then install button. When you installed DNS your computer will be restart automatically.
This is the final confirmation screen, Successfully you have done install DNS on windows server 2012 when you have done click on the close button.
Install and configure DNS in windows server 2012
You have done installation. now how to configure DNS?
If you want to use the command line to configure your DNS, use the (dnscmd ) command open the RUN page and then type dnscmd, and press enter.
Or Manager, to configure the DNS Server, Click the Tools menu and then select DNS. This brings up the DNS Manager window.
First click on tools and then fined DNS. When you fined double click on “DNS” it will be open.
Ok when you opened “DNS” window, click on folder lookup zone and then. right click then select New zone. the next page will be open and you can make a new zone.
The new zone wizard page’s open. And then click on the next button. The zone type page is open when you open this page you must to select primary zone and then click on next.
Now, type the name of your new zone, for example I want to make whit the name of techabl.com, and then click on next. And then file zone will be open and it gives automatically your file name then click on next.
Dynamic update on DNS windows server 2012:
It will be ask you about dynamic update.
Although there are three choices here, only two should actually be used in production. Select the first option to allow only secure dynamic updates if you are integrating your DNS with Active Directory. Select do not allow dynamic updates if your DNS is not integrated with Active Directory and you don’t want to allow dynamic updates. Now I want to select the first option and then click on next.
Completing the new zone wizard.
Now click on the next button your new zone will be Complete. Ok your DNS server is now configured and ready for use. now check your new zone.
See. Successfully you have done a new zone in DNS windows server. Now you can use DNS it’s ready. If you want to bring Changes in new zone, so click on new zone and then click one of them.
